MSL Exclusive: Interview with PureComp!!!

The Mandy Squad Life is Proud To Give Y'all Another Dope Ass Interview!!!! PureComp is one of the hardest, hardest working, brutally honest and unapologetic cats in the rap game thus far, and he ain't afraid of breaking eggs for an omelet! The Mandy Squad Life's very own Daimyo of the DownSkayle, Koldraiyne DownSkayle, got a chance to pick PC's brain for thoughts on his debut mixtape, Rated PC, beefs, his musical influences and more!!!

1. Mandy Squad Life:Tell the people who you are and a little about yourself.

1. PureComp: I go by PureComp, but most people just call me PC. I've been doing music as long as I can remember. My label is T.R.U. T.H.U.G.Z. Ent, or TTE. We are based out of the southside of Atlanta, Clayton County. I consider myself as one of the most honest artists in the game.

2.   MSL: I know you rep for both New York and Atlanta, so how do you translate that into your music or do you feel as though it had no effect?
2. PC: I don't really try to cater to either region, it just comes naturally. I was raised in Mount Vernon, NY, but I've been in Atlanta for over 10 years, so both cultures are naturally in me. I'm somewhere in the middle. It's funny because people in Atlanta know I'm from NY because of my accent and style, but in NY everybody says I talk and rap like I'm from the south. All I know is that I'm dope.

3. MSL:  Some of the lyrics on “Talking Bout You” Seemed a little specific. Was there a target in mind when you wrote that song?
3. PC: Yeah. Definitely. I had specific targets when I wrote that song. The nigga that made the beat is one of them. A former friend/business associate. I didn't say any names, but I was so specific that they know who I'm talkin about. That's why I named it "Talkin Bout You". I was also gettin at my former friend/business partner on "O They Shootin".

4. MSL: The vibe of the mixtape ranged from introspective to “aggressive content”, no 50 Cent. What was your aim and goal for what you wanted to do with Rated PC?
4. PC: The main thing I wanted to do with the mixtape was to show all sides of me. I'm bipolar, so I got plenty to talk about and it'll still be genuine. Everything on the mixtape was from the heart. I make a lot of deep music, so I didn't force anything on that end. As far as the aggressive stuff goes, that's me too. Everybody has an aggressive side, some of us more than others. I just display it record. It's all real. My music is based on emotion. That way it'll live longer. Whatever styles or fads that are popular will eventually die out, but emotions will be around forever. So hopefully, in 20 years people will be able to put one of my records on and still feel it. That's what I tried to do with the mixtape and it's the reason why I named it "Rated PC". It's all me.

5. MSL:  On your tape, I noticed most if not all your features were with your T.R.U. T.H.U.G.Z. family. Is there anybody outside of your immediate crew that you recognize as your peers in the rap game.
5. PC:  I listen to a lot of older artists from the 90s, but I've been checkin out the newer artists as of late. People like Freddie Gibbs, ASAP Rocky, artists like that. I don't really listen to the radio at all so I don't know enough artists to pick out peers.

6.   MSL: The final question is this: Are you satisfied with your progress thus far musically?
6. PC:  I'm satisfied, but at the same time I know I'm getting better. I started makin tapes in my bedroom with a tape recorder and a MTV Music Generator on Playstation. To have my own company and studio and be able to mix and master my own stuff for free is a great feeling. As far as the music goes, I'm very confident in my ability. My music is real and diverse. My bars are crazy and I can make catchy songs too. I use different concepts, melodies, and flows so I think I can hang with anyone. It might sound arrogant, but I'm just confident in my ability.
